Background of the Study:
Small-scale industries serve as engines of economic growth and employment generation, particularly in regions where formal sector opportunities are limited. In Ifo, these industries contribute significantly to local economies by providing direct and indirect employment, stimulating entrepreneurship, and fostering community development (Ola, 2023). They also serve as a training ground for skill development and innovation. However, challenges such as limited access to credit, inadequate infrastructure, and market saturation constrain their growth potential (Folarin, 2024). Recent research highlights the need for supportive policies and capacity-building initiatives to overcome these obstacles and maximize the benefits of small-scale industrial development (Akin, 2025). This study examines the role of small-scale industries in employment generation and explores strategies to enhance their contribution to economic development in Ifo.
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the evident contribution of small-scale industries to employment in Ifo, their growth is hampered by inadequate funding, limited market access, and infrastructural deficits. This study investigates these challenges to provide recommendations for boosting employment through enhanced support and policy reforms (Adekunle, 2024).
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the role of small-scale industries in job creation.
To identify the challenges limiting their growth.
To propose strategies for improving employment generation.
Research Questions:
What is the impact of small-scale industries on employment generation in Ifo?
What are the major challenges faced by these industries?
What measures can enhance their growth and employment potential?
Research Hypotheses:
Small-scale industries significantly contribute to employment generation.
Financial constraints limit the growth of small-scale industries.
Policy support enhances the employment potential of small-scale enterprises.
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it provides an in-depth analysis of the role small-scale industries play in generating employment, offering valuable insights for policymakers to develop targeted support measures that can boost local economic growth in Ifo (Babatunde, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
Limited to the topic only.
Definitions of Terms:
Small-Scale Industries: Enterprises operating on a limited scale in terms of capital and labor.
Employment Generation: The process of creating job opportunities.
